We all braved through ninety degree heat during the formals and bride and groom portraits in Tanner Springs in NW Portland. Luckily we had plenty of water, and a backup plan for finding photographic shaded areas. I’m glad they chose Tanner Springs for their formals, it gave their photos [...]]]> What a beautiful, elegant and modern wedding! We all braved through ninety degree heat during the formals and bride and groom portraits in Tanner Springs in NW Portland. Luckily we had plenty of water, and a backup plan for finding photographic shaded areas. I’m glad they chose Tanner Springs for their formals, it gave their photos a nice blend of natural and urban characteristics. Then we were off to the Portland Art Museum for an outdoor ceremony, the beautifully shaded area was the perfect setting for a sweet and entertaining ceremony. We then met at Hotel de Lux’s restaurant Gracie’s for an evening of toasts, stories, dancing, and a sunset portrait session of the Bride and Groom. I had so much fun at Matt and Kate’s wedding, and my husband was the DJ! Here are some of the highlights of their wedding.

I really enjoyed the organic process of our adventure,  letting the location choose us and going with it. As you can see, we found some great hidden spots just waiting for us.

This app is a feed-based photo sharing network, with the option to apply one of 15 filters to your images, including  the ever popular lomo filter, or the 1977 filter. Users add other users to their stream, and popular photos (photos with multiple “likes”) are shared on the app’s “popular” page. You can also share your photos with other social networking sites including Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, and Facebook.

The pro’s: The photos on instagram are excellent! With the “popular” feature, you are spared all of the less desirable photos destined to be uploaded by amateurs. You “follow” a user to choose who’s photos you want to see on your updated feed, so you can pick only the best. This is the reason I love this app, I am aways in search of photographic inspiration which this app does not lack in.

I also like the response feature to images It’s one way to check out other users that are not in the “popular” category, and every now and then you get some insightful feedback on your photos. Mostly though it’s a bunch of  ”great photo” and “nice work” responses. Doesn’t hurt the ego, but kind of pointless.

The cons: This app is incredibly limited. User profiles include the number of followers, number of users they are following, their uploaded photos and likes and responses. That’s it! The enjoyable simplicity of this app wears off after a while, I’m ready for some more info on these amazing photographers!

Con/pro: I wish the photos were limited to those taken with a phone. A common trend I have noticed is that users upload photos to their phone from their computer and then post them on their instagram account. This leads to raising the bar on popularity, and it is starting to weed out those of us who (eh hem) are using the app to showcase our mobile photos and the instagram filters that we have applied to them. Soon I suspect that all of the “popular” photos will be limited to users’ professional quality photos, thus eliminating the point of the app being a showcase of mobile photos. And you want to be on the “popular” page because it’s one of the best ways for other users to notice you.

My review:

Despite the downfalls of this app’s simplicity, I am totally hooked! I love the constant exposure to a world of creativity, and the competition to get noticed is fun. Also, it’s super easy to feel like I am sharing my photography with the world, and that leads to one more confident photographer. At least on most days.

My Winsconsin-tempered bones welcome anything above 15 degrees! Yesterday was a wonderful 50 degrees, perfect for a bike ride down the Springwater Corridor.
